Metro Parks teamwork delivers West Park update

CONTENT METRO WATER SERVICES’ PLANNING with Metro Parks has led to a creative collaboration that will result in significant improvements to the recreational facilities at West Park, add wet weather storage in West Nashville and benefit the water quality of Richland Creek.

Design of West Park will be completed this summer, and construction of the new storage tank and park improvements will begin in early 2015. West Park and the expanded MWS Equalization facilities, located at 6105 Morrow Road in District 20, should be completed and fully ready for MWS and public use in late 2016.

The Water Services and Parks partnership accomplishes two significant goals for the community – 1) improve and expand recreational opportunities within West Park, and 2) build an additional storage tank to meet Clean Water Act requirements.

“Metro Water and Metro Parks had separate goals to improve the same area of this community, so by putting our teams together, we were able to merge our goals into a single plan that will produce a very positive improvement for the neighborhood and will benefit the area for many years,” said Metro Parks Director Tommy Lynch.

Project components include:
• Construction of a 260-foot diameter, 37-foot-high circular wet weather storage tank similar to the existing tank at the same location
• A new, adult softball field with updated lighting and irrigation system; a new basketball court; a 6,000-square foot youth playground with rubberized safety surface; and a new picnic and restroom pavilion
• A 12-foot wide greenway trail that follows along Richland Creek and creates a loop for walking, running and bicycling
• Extensive landscaping to improve overall park aesthetics
